The inaugural Spina Bifida Cornhole Tournament was November 5, 2016. The purpose of the tournament is to raise awareness and money for Spina Bifida of Greater St. Louis (SBSTL), a 501(c)(3) organization that helps individuals with neural tube defects and their families.
What is a neural tube defect? Neural tube defects are birth defects of the brain, spine, or spinal cord. This happens in the first month of pregnancy, often before a women even knows she is pregnant. Spina Bifida is the most common neural tube defect. Spina Bifida occurs when the spine and spinal cord do not form properly. To learn more about Spina Bifida, click HERE.
SBSTL provides emotional, financial and educational support for individuals with neural tube defects and their families. They also promote public awareness and concerns for all persons with Spina Bifida and assists with development of social skills and provide opportunities for interaction and networking for those with Spina Bifida.
